Creative Writing and Art
Creative Writing and Art
This workshop merges the practices of creative writing with visual art. In the first session, the class will read and discuss examples of ekphrastic writing (writing in response to a work of art). Then, students view a work of art in the MAM collection and experiment with prompts to write a rough draft in the form of poetry, personal nonfiction, or micro-fiction. We’ll discuss our work and develop a plan for revision. In the second session, we’ll explore different ways to combine visual imagery with text, playing with design elements such as color, texture, composition, and symbolism. Our final project will be a visually interesting, artistic presentation of our writing.
All skill levels are welcome. Participants should bring a notebook or sketchbook to class, all other materials will be provided.
