Studio Explorers: Native Perspectives
Studio Explorers: Native Perspectives
Inspired by the themes of the exhibition Interwoven Power: Native Knowledge / Native Art, young artists will explore Indigenous ideas and art-making practices. Students will learn mixed-media techniques that have been passed across generations and are vibrant today, such as weaving, beading, painting, and sculpting with clay. Exploring Native stories and perspectives, students will reflect on our relationships with the natural world and each other, while creating their own unique works of art.

Kristian Battell
Kristian Battell is an artist working and living in northern New Jersey, having recently completed her Masters of Fine Art at the School of Visual Arts in New York, NY. She always considered herself more of a traditional printmaker, having a BFA in Printmaking and Art of the Book from Purchase College, but the pandemic has shifted her practice to sculpture and installation. These sculptures focus on climate change and upcycling the materials that surround her in her everyday life. She loves bringing this practice to a wider audience, especially by teaching kids about our impact on the environment and the change we can make through art.
