Opening Weekend Guest Artist Family Workshop with Kennetha Greenwood

FREE with museum admission and for members, with advance registration required.

Join us each Sunday for a fun family art-making activity inspired by our current exhibitions. Explore materials, learn new techniques, and meet other community members while enjoying creative time with your family. Each week features a different project designed by MAM Teaching Artists to spark the imagination and encourage conversation in response to artworks on view in Museum galleries. This program is for all ages and abilities! Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

In this special Sunday Studio designed for all ages and abilities, the artist will guide families through a mixed-media art project using flowers and textiles. Families will learn about Otoe-Missouria art-making traditions from an artist whose work is on view in MAM’s long-term installation Interwoven Power: Native Knowledge / Native Art.

ABOUT KENNETHA GREENWOOD

Kennetha Greenwood [Nyi K'omi] (Otoe-Missouria) is an award-winning artist known for her graphic art and beadwork. Influenced by the designs of her Otoe-Missouria people, she was encouraged at a young age by her grandmother and mother to sew ribbonwork patterns on customary clothing. As a Woodlands tribe, the Otoe-Missouria have been surrounded by the beauty reflected in flowers and plants. Using floral and abstract geometric designs in their creations shows respect for the blessings and provisions in the environment, which Greenwood honors in her work today.
