Come explore artistic materials, visit our galleries, enjoy story time, and make new friends at CREATEabilities – MAM’s engaging program and social outing for young children and their parents.
CREATEabilities is led by an art educator and an occupational therapist, who design well-rounded activities to inspire and strengthen important skills for developing preschoolers and early learners. All ages and abilities are welcome to learn & create with us!
February’s program is inspired by the shimmering shell buttons on the red and black ceremonial blankets in the exhibition Undaunted Spirit: Art of Native North America.
Children will create their own paper and fabric button blankets while exploring the sensory properties of materials and strengthening visual perceptual skills through lacing of oversized buttons. Fine motor and bilateral skills are targeted, and kids will have fun using a hole punch, which is great for hand strengthening!
Story time will feature books exploring the theme of bundling up to keep warm and cozy in winter.
