For kids who love cartoons and animated movies, this class teaches the core skills needed to become the become the author, director, and animator of your own personal cartoons. Learn traditional as well as digital 2D animated motion production techniques to bring your own characters to life and turn your own stories into original animated short films.

This class will meet in person, following all COVID-19 guidelines, including mask-wearing and social distancing, for a safe, social, creative experience. In the event that the museum must close, the class will continue online via Zoom and instruction will utilize free open-source computer programs and readily available digital production tools.

Raul Barcelona

Raul Barcelona is an award-winning filmmaker, photographer, artist and educator based in New York City whose work has been exhibited in galleries and film festivals around the world, including the Sundance and Berlin International Film Festivals, and shown on HBO, PBS and the Discovery Channel, among others.

Raul teaches film, TV production and communication at Union County College; and  filmmaking, photography, animation and graphic design to teens and young adults with autism spectrum disorders through a therapeutic enrichment program. A PhD candidate at the University of Plymouth, his doctoral thesis, Film Here Now, explores the practice of filmmaking and its relation to well-being.
