Curtis Grayson, III
As an artist, I tend to utilize bold, bright, and brilliant colors. There is no sketch or designated plan of action when I am painting abstractly; the process is generally organic. When I create art, my mind and heart are at peace, and I place all that positive energy and passion into the work itself.
When creating my abstracts, I play with color and work with a variety of different materials, particularly African fabrics with colorful patterns. In the same way that the space between beats in music is used to evoke specific tones and rhythms, I use my bold materials to highlight certain areas or accent specific features within a particular work. Ultimately, I create a complex visual language within my abstracts by utilizing expressive lines, colors, and manipulating negative and positive space, as well as my understanding of design.
