iPhone Filmmaking

This introductory course examines the ways in which a smartphone can be employed as a mobile production studio to create engaging and compelling cinematic works. Through the production of original short films, students explore the aesthetic elements of film while putting into practice shooting, editing and storytelling techniques. The overarching goal of the course is to transform students from passive smartphone users to active media producers.

Raul Barcelona

Raul Barcelona is an award-winning filmmaker, photographer, artist and educator based in New York City whose work has been exhibited in galleries and film festivals around the world, including the Sundance and Berlin International Film Festivals, and shown on HBO, PBS and the Discovery Channel, among others.

Raul teaches film, TV production and communication at Union County College; and  filmmaking, photography, animation and graphic design to teens and young adults with autism spectrum disorders through a therapeutic enrichment program. A PhD candidate at the University of Plymouth, his doctoral thesis, Film Here Now, explores the practice of filmmaking and its relation to well-being.
