SummerART: Studio Art Camp Session 2

To
9:00 am
3:00 pm

Our in-person Studio Art Camp encourages experimentation, creative thinking, and skill development in a safe, fun, supportive, and socially engaging environment with other creative kids. Campers are in age-specific groups led by our professional Teaching Artists, with limited enrollment to increase personalized attention. Classes will take place in our spacious studios and outdoors in tented classrooms on the Museum grounds.

Each session is inspired by a different theme with exciting new projects providing age-appropriate challenges for campers to explore a variety of mediums and techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, and mixed media. Supervised lunch and recess take place outside with organized games and activities. Afternoons focus on specialized instruction in a different art form, such as comic art or printmaking, so campers can sharpen medium-specific skills and develop their own unique voice for creative self-expression.

Session 2 Theme: Time Traveling Artists

Step into an artistic time machine and let your imagination run wild!  Embark on an artistic journey and explore artmaking from medieval marvels to futuristic fantasies, weaving imaginative tales through a variety of media. From the caves in Lascaux, to the Renaissance and intergalactic artforms, your child will learn about artistic innovation and create their own revolutionary masterpieces.

Campers in Studio Art Camp will enjoy specialized instruction by teachers with expertise in specific art forms in the afternoons. Each session features a different Afternoon Focus for each age level.

Afternoon Focus:

Ages 6–7: Fiber Arts

Campers will learn fundamental textile and fiber art skills to create a wide variety of creative ways to use materials like fabric and yarn.

Ages 8–9: Sculpture

Campers learn fundamental sculpture techniques to create 3-dimensional forms in space using a variety of materials and methods.

Ages 10–12: Printmaking

Campers explore the endless possibilities of printmaking as a medium for self-expression, learning techniques such as silkscreen, collagraph, relief printing, monoprint, and stenciling.
