New Media: New Forms, New Jersey Arts Annual: Fine Arts 2012
New Media: New Forms was a group exhibition of new media art by New Jersey-based artists and the 2012 New Jersey Arts Annual: Fine Arts exhibition. As the world becomes increasingly digitized, many contemporary artists are incorporating new technologies into their work. The thirteen artists selected for this juried exhibition produce work that actively and innovatively engages with digital media, in terms of process, form, or content. Working in video, sound, installation, photography, sculpture, drawing, and performance, the artists featured were: Gregg Biermann, Andrew Demirjian, Valerie Huhn, Efrat Kedem, Keith Kostelny, JC Lenochan, Joan Pamboukes, Kara Rooney, Vincent Salvati, Joe Scanlan, Peter Tilgner, Liselot van der Heijden, and Matthew Wilson.
The New Jersey Arts Annual is a unique series of Fine Arts and Crafts exhibitions highlighting the works of visual artists and craftspeople in the state. The Arts Annual series is co-sponsored by the New Jersey Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment of the Arts; the Montclair Art Museum; the Morris Museum; the Newark Museum; the Noyes Museum of Art and the New Jersey State Museum. The exhibition was open to artists currently living or working in New Jersey and who engage with digital media in their work, and was juried by Curator of Contemporary Art of the Montclair Art Museum, Alexandra Schwartz and Kelly Baum, Haskell Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Princeton University Art Museum. New Media: New Forms is organized by Alexandra Schwartz with MAM Curatorial Assistant Kimberly Fisher.
