Potters, Patrons, and Promises: Gifts from Audrey and Norbert Gaelen
In 1980, while touring the American Southwest, Norbert and Audrey Gaelen became enamored with Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Native American art, particularly native pottery. Their interest and passion continues today with not only works in clay but also paintings, sculptures, and glass. The Gaelens are benevolent collectors who enjoy the hunt for new works, and living with art, and who love to share their collection with others. They have now donated their entire fine collection of American Indian pottery to the Museum to make it available to the public. This exhibition showcases the first part of this very generous and significant gift, which greatly enhances the Museum's holdings of Native American contemporary art.
