MAM invites people living with dementia and their care partners to explore art together during this free, interactive gallery program. Join MAM docents and educators in engaging with current exhibition through gallery conversations and hands-on activities. To make a reservation, please call 973-259-5136 or contact email@example.com. We request that each person with dementia is accompanied by one family member or caregiver. Coordinators at care facilities, please contact us to make an appointment for your group.
First Thursday of the Month (October–June)
Make a play date with art! Appreciate the full experience of Free First Thursday Night while your kids (ages 5+) are engaged in an age-appropriate art project. During this drop-off workshop, kids will learn to use fine art materials while you enjoy an enriching and relaxing evening in MAM's galleries. Led by MAM's experienced art educators, activities in the Kids' Creativity Center will be inspired, seasonal, whimsical, and fun!

MAM Annual High School Lecture: Kameelah Janan Rasheed

MAM’s Annual High School Lecture series invites prominent artists to share their insight with teens who are contemplating creative careers. Kameelah Janan Rasheed is an artist/archivist, writer, and former public school social studies teacher whose immersive text-based installations, large-scale public text pieces, publications, sound projects, and discursive programming engage with both figurative and literal language to explore how we narrate the connections between the past, present, and future.
Video Editing: Intro to Adobe Premiere Pro with Montclair Film Festival (Ages 15+)
Learn to edit your video footage like a professional in partnership with Montclair Film Festival! This one-day beginner workshop will cover the interface, controls, and features of the industry-standard software Adobe Premiere Pro. This workshop is offered again on March 4. Registration is through montclairfilmfest.org.

The Montclair Art Museum is pleased to once again be a venue for this series that connects kids and their parents to the jazz experience. WBGO provides local youth an opportunity to hear some of the jazz community’s most respected musicians and vocalists. Guest artists will perform and hold an interactive discussion about jazz and rhythms, including a Q&A session. Seating is on a first-come-first-served basis. Adults must be accompanied by a young person.
Introduction to Wheel Throwing
Is learning the potter’s wheel on your bucket list? This one-day workshop is a basic introduction to the fundamentals of the potter’s wheel. Students learn basic pottery techniques that will help them to create unique and personal pieces out of stoneware. Students select glazes and return to pick up their fired pots at the end of the semester. All supplies are provided.
Drop by MAM's Helen & Bill Geyer Art Studio to explore a range of art materials and processes based on artwork on view in the galleries. Open-ended activities are designed to spark creativity in artists of all ages and abilities with seasoned MAM studio instructors standing by to provide hands-on assistance and technical advice. Come in for 20 minutes or stay for an hour and leave with your very own masterpiece.

Parents with young children will enjoy MAM Park Bench, a program that introduces children to the Museum and serves as an artistic social outing. Get acquainted with other parents and young children, work on fun art projects, and take a guided tour of the Museum. The program is led by MAM Educator Angela Frasco and geared towards preschool age children. Storytelling provided in the galleries courtesy of the Montclair Public Library. Refreshments provided.

Spring Educators Evening
Join us for a special evening for pre-K–12 educators as we explore Henri Matisse's deep and lasting influence on the work of American artists, from Arthur Dove to Andy Warhol. Enjoy viewing Matisse in American Art and Inspired by Matisse: Selected Works from the Collection in MAM's galleries and participate in a hands-on workshop to explore creative ideas you can bring back into your classroom.
Participants earn two hours of professional development credit for the evening.

Parent and Child Ceramics
Work together with your child to make a textured tile or wall hanging and experiment with throwing on the potter's wheel. Workshop participants will view demonstrations of the various steps involved in wheel throwing and have time for guided practice. Additionally, participants will use a variety of stamps and texturing implements to design their own family tile or wall piece. Price is per parent and child pair.
