SummerART: Studio Art Camp Session 4

To
9:00 am
3:00 pm

Our in-person Studio Art Camp encourages experimentation, creative thinking, and skill development in a safe, fun, supportive, and socially engaging environment with other creative kids. Campers are in age-specific groups led by our professional Teaching Artists, with limited enrollment to increase personalized attention. Classes will take place in our spacious studios and outdoors in tented classrooms on the Museum grounds.

Each session is inspired by a different theme with exciting new projects providing age-appropriate challenges for campers to explore a variety of mediums and techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, and mixed media. Supervised lunch and recess take place outside with organized games and activities. Afternoons focus on specialized instruction in a different art form, such as comic art or printmaking, so campers can sharpen medium-specific skills and develop their own unique voice for creative self-expression.

Session 4 Theme: Lights, Camera, Action!

The stage is set for fun! Delve into the world of rock stars, music, and movies. From yesterday's fan favorites to today’s top charts, your superstar will create works of art inspired by the action, drama, and suspense of the big screen and engage in media literacy, collaboration, self-expression, and character development to bridge music and movies into art-making.

Campers in Studio Art Camp will enjoy specialized instruction by teachers with expertise in specific art forms in the afternoons. Each session features a different Afternoon Focus for each age level.

Afternoon Focus:

Ages 6–7: Puppetry

Campers create a variety of puppets, such as hand puppets, shadow puppets, and marionettes, as well as a basic theater set.

Ages 8–9: Sculpture

Campers learn fundamental sculpture techniques to create 3-dimensional forms in space using a variety of materials and methods.

Ages 10–12: Comic Art

Campers design imaginative characters and learn the basics of comic book art, from storyboarding and composition to speech bubbles and lettering techniques.
