An Evening with vanessa german

We regret to inform you that the Gaelen Lecture scheduled for Thursday, April 20, has been postponed. Unfortunately, the artist vanessa german, who was set to speak, has been diagnosed with bronchitis and is unable to attend.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and are currently working with vanessa to reschedule the lecture for a future date.

Through her powerful work, vanessa german offers a redemptive space for visitors. Linked to her identity as an activist, german's creative practice has its roots in indigenous and West African folk traditions, as well as the Black Arts movements from the 1960s onwards.

The community at MAM will experience first-hand german's reputation as a mesmerizing speaker, educator, and performance artist when she gives the prestigious Gaelen Family Artist Lecture. This program is in conjunction with the exhibition, vanessa german:...please imagine all the things i cannot say... a large-scale, immersive installation of mixed-media artworks from 2016–2022 utilizing unique and found objects.

This event is made possible through The Gaelen Family Artist Lecture Endowment Fund.
