VISION AND VALUES

Our vision and values guide our actions:

  • Respect – We care for the works in our collection, artistic expression, the land and environment, and the people we serve.

  • Collaboration - Through partnerships with artists, scholars, community members, and institutions, we ensure that our collective work reflects diverse perspectives, input, and expertise.

  • Engagement and Education – Through exhibitions; family, student, and public programs; and studio art classes, we cultivate creativity and personal expression, and spark critical conversations and learning for people of all ages and abilities.

  • Inclusion – We strive to create an accessible and welcoming environment that fosters open dialogue and empathy for all.

MAM'S COMMITMENT TO INDIGENOUS ARTISTS AND COMMUNITIES

We are on Lunáapeew/Lenape land, called Lūnaapeewáhkiing/Lenapehoking. We honor and affirm Lunáapeew/Lenape people and their ongoing ties to this place as well as the many Indigenous people living in the region today. We recognize the painful history of genocide, erasure, and displacement of Indigenous people from this land and across the Americas.

We strive to build respectful relationships with Native artists and communities through sustained actions in a long-term process conducted with deliberate care, which includes:

  • Partnership – Working with and learning from Native people as valued partners in all aspects of the Museum.

  • Reciprocity and Repair - Upgrading our policies and processes to support Indigenous goals, practices, and justice.

  • Access – Increasing access to the Museum’s resources to advance Native people and build community.

  • Education – Offering truthful narratives and amplifying Native perspectives to foster empathy, understanding, and change.

We invite you to join us in this commitment.
