Debra Cartwright: Inaugural AACC Founders Fellow Exhibition

February 9-March 10, 2024

In her art practice, Debra Cartwright explores the historical connection between gynecology and its impact on Black women in America, shedding light on disparities in maternal mortality. She draws parallels between landscape painting and its representation of land use to highlight the exploitation of Black women’s bodies in medical experiments.

Debra Cartwright recently graduated with her MFA from Rutgers University. She holds art and design degrees from the University of Virginia and Parsons School of Design. She’s shown at Fridman Gallery and Allouche Gallery in New York and internationally at CFHill in Sweden and Bode Projects in Berlin. She currently practices in Brooklyn, NY.
