Create a Personal Collage with MAM art educator Agnieszka Aggie Wszolkowska, based on Janet Tyler Pickett's artwork, Me and Matisse, 2001.
Janet Tyler Pickett, an artist living in Montclair, New Jersey, wrote a book about her childhood dream of becoming an artist. In the book, she wrote of Henri Matisse, and how “She fell in love with his color, and dreamt of living inside one of his rooms."
In an exhibition at the Montclair Art Museum, she showed over 60 dresses collaged with pictures cut from books of Matisse’s artwork. She said, “the dress is a vessel of who I am - a black woman growing up to be an artist.”
