In this introductory class, you will learn the foundational skills for working with clay on the potter’s wheel. Through demonstrations, instructor guidance, and studio work time, you will learn how to throw your own ready-to-use functional pottery. Everyone will be able to complete items from start to finish! 

Each student receives 25 lbs of clay for use during class. Additional clay can be purchased as needed. All skill levels are welcome. Tools and glazes are provided in the studio.

Steve Jaskowak

Stephen Jaskowak has been working with clay, in one capacity or another, on a daily basis since 1983. He started out as a functional potter working in potteries throughout Wisconsin. He received his B.A. in 1996 from the University of Wisconsin– Parkside and his M.F.A. from Miami University in 1998. Steve has been the ceramic studio manager at MAM since 2012 and is currently an adjunct professor at Kean University. Steve likes listening to the Grateful Dead and has been to over 437 of their concerts.
