SummerART: Studio Art Camp Session 1
Our in-person Studio Art Camp encourages experimentation, creative thinking, and skill development in a safe, fun, supportive, and socially engaging environment with other creative kids. Campers are divided into age-specific groups led by our professional Teaching Artists, with limited enrollment to increase personalized attention. Classes take place in our spacious studios and include creative time on the Museum grounds.
Each session is inspired by a different theme with exciting new projects providing age-appropriate challenges for campers to explore a variety of mediums and techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, and mixed media. Supervised lunch and recess take place outside with organized games and activities. Afternoons focus on specialized instruction in a different art form, such as comic art or printmaking, so campers can sharpen medium-specific skills and develop their own unique voice for creative self-expression.
Session 1 Theme: Shooting Stars
Blast off into an interstellar adventure full of color, curiosity, and cosmic imagination! Campers will design alien species, paint swirling nebulas, build model planets, and invent futuristic space tech using mixed media art materials. Explore the wonders of the universe and the mysteries of deep space while imagining worlds far beyond our own! Defy gravity and explore the stars through spectacular art projects!
Campers in Studio Art Camp will enjoy specialized instruction by teachers with expertise in specific art forms in the afternoons. Each session features a different Afternoon Focus for each age level.
Afternoon Focus:
Ages 6-7: Printmaking: Explore the endless possibilities of printmaking, learning techniques such as silkscreen, collagraph, relief printing, monoprint, and stenciling.
Ages 8-9: Weaving & Sewing: Learn fundamental textile and fiber arts techniques like sewing and weaving using fabric, yarn, needle, and thread to create colorful textured artwork!
Ages 10-12: Sculpture: Learn fundamental sculpture techniques to create 3-dimensional forms in space using a variety of materials and methods.
