Creating a Photo Story About Community with Ed Kashi

To
11:00 am
4:00 pm
Two Sundays: April 7, April 21; One Saturday: April 27

This three-session workshop explores how to tell a story about community through photographs. Whether it’s a story about someone in your family, on your street, or a local group, projects will focus on a subject that represents positive and unique contributions in the local community. The instructor, artist Ed Kashi, will share examples of his own photographic projects as inspiration and guide participants forward in their own personal process. Storytelling through photographic composition, editing, content, and caption writing will be discussed.

This workshop meets every other week to give students ample time to shoot photos of their subject in between class sessions. The goal of this workshop is not to take perfect photographs, but rather to learn new ways of creating a narrative with your photos and develop your own creative voice.

Participants may come to the workshop with an idea of the people or group they are interested in photographing, or work with the instructor to choose a subject. We will be working digitally, so please bring your own laptop and everything needed for digital editing.
